Vallano explained that leaving the junction unresolved could allow continued water entry and deterioration of adjacent materials. Renewing the defective leadwork was advised, but the customer chose not to proceed and this work was not instructed or completed by Vallano.

Dormer-cheek leadwork and valley-junction repair
The customer reported that this roof junction had leaked for years. Inspection found missing cement at the valley junction and inadequate lead weathering where the dormer cheek met the slate roof.
Problem reported
Cement was missing from part of the valley junction, and the dormer cheek did not have a suitable lead detail extending onto the slate roof to direct rainwater away from the property.
What the inspection found
The existing junction left the dormer cheek and adjoining roof detail vulnerable to water entry. Vallano recommended renewing the lead weathering and reinstating the missing cement detail as one targeted repair.
Completed work
The old leadwork was lifted and replaced, the missing valley detail was repointed, and the completed junction was resealed. Vallano water-tested the area after completion and observed no ingress during the test. The customer said she was extremely happy with the completed repair.
How the work was completed
New Code 4 lead formed to protect the dormer cheek
The original lead was lifted so the dormer-cheek junction could be prepared for a new detail. Code 4 lead was formed with a 100 mm upstand at the cheek and 200 mm of cover onto the slate roof to direct rainwater away from the junction.
Missing cement at the adjoining valley detail was repointed, and the relevant junctions were resealed as part of the agreed work. The repaired area was then water-tested before handover; no water entry was observed during that test.
